Watch out Oro Bianca / Plint Nero / Cherry Bourbon / ?
« on: December 22, 2019, 11:00:38 AM »
We are seeing more of these now trying to slide through 2 new fig enthusiast on Figbid and other places.

Any varieties coming from the lorusso collection need to be verified !

Out of all the varieties we only have the Violetta Bella and the Grazie 3 produce figs without dropping.

The Taste was really Bland on both of them another fig that I would trust that person's review was the Nina 2 has produced a edible fig we have this one but ours hasn't produced so I have gotten cuttings from this s e l l e r  to compare this variety.

Some of the facts that members don't realize here is we do research so it might be a dud but we still have to put out the funds in order to test it and find out so you do not get took advantage of.

We can tell you the Oro, Oro Blanca, and Plint Nero are not a common fig they are not hard to get fruit but they won't fruit if you don't have the wasp.

The other variety that we researched is the Cherry bourbon this is not a common fig and we would advise members to steer clear of any of these varieties from this source until proven.

The Honey Plum that we've been researching has produce edible figs but has not meet the hype and the description by the person who discovered this and a few sellers. One other person  has confirmed this outside of California that doesn't have the wasp.

Remember Fig varieties will not perform the same in different growing areas and growing zones this is the facts.

We've seen some advertisement that they are field studying these varieties outside the US doesn't do any good we're growing in the US so what's this hype got to do with anything besides a selling technique just use common sense. Here's another review on the honey plum. https://www.figbid.com/Listing/Details/6470363/Two-2-Honey-Plum-Fig-Tree-Cuttings

I appreciate reading your evaluations on figs that are currently on the market as my space and funds are limited.  If you say it doesn't have the "BAM" factor, it's not worth the time and money to invest 2-3 years waiting for it to live up to its full potential.  I have to admit that I was interested in the Honey Plum fig based on color alone.  I started getting heavily into figs in July of this year and knew very little then.  After becoming involved in various fig related websites I have come a long ways.  Whenever I see somebody advertising a new found variety in CA, I just scroll past it as I am not willing to take the time to wait and see if it's common.

GJRoberts I saw that you won the Honey Plum cuttings on FigBid. Were you able to root it? How is the tree performing?
