We all need to help new fig enthusiast be well informed so they do not become victims. So if you see price gouging and someone extorting figs this is where you need to post it.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, people can't find toilet paper or hand sanitizer, the economy could be in major trouble and some idiot is wanting $120 for a cutting that can be obtained for the cost of shipping......Scotty, Beam me up...

I noticed a lot of people bidding and paying more on easy-to-find varieties like Green Ischia, for example,  than purchasing from online nurseries.  I just laugh and think those people are stupid for not doing their homework.  One seller wanted $40 with free shipping for a rooted Green Ischia cutting still in a solo cup. When confronted, the seller said the tree was $25 and the remaining balance was for shipping.  So where is the free shipping? I can find an established tree for under $13 and $5 for shipping.  Definitely price gouging even though it's not $100+.  It must be about the gambling: bidding and winning something that makes people happy. 

How does one have a (Removed Word) on an item up for auction?  :P  There is a blue banner saying "(Removed Word)" on some items.

 I think you may be missing the point here a little bit, the average price for fruit trees at box stores, nurseries are ranges from $29 to $49 a tree. We're talking about people like the person that had one cutting of the LSU red for $120.

I understand the point you were making.  I am trying to prevent people who are new to the fig world from being taken advantage of.  The thing is that people think their stuff is worth more than it is or want see how much money they can get for it no matter if it is $120 or that $25 cutting.  In my eyes that is still gouging. Is a rooted cutting which is still in a solo cup really worth $40?  You and I know the answer is no.  It still has to be up potted, acclimated to the sun, be careful with fertilizer and and pray that it makes the transition successfully.  A newbie doesn't know all that.

That is a excellent point and it also depends on your location here in the US as fig Willie has pointed out.

Here is LSU St. Gabriel’s Black and the auction price is $190.50 and has 20 more hours to go before the auction will end. This is the most expensive LSU variety I have seen.

Boy oh boy crazy I see the person that's got the high bid is a newcomer with the views of 1.

And I see somebody comments on that it had won of the best tasting fig contest in a small gathering here in Louisiana but what's not say it was at somebody's home and I'm sure that he wasn't in attendance that day. Talk about some hype here it's a 29. 95 special that's it.

Newcomers to FigBid fall victims to those hype. I did too before I became smart.

I try to stick to free or trades. Ive acquired over 20 varieties including popular “name brands” this way and i think it’s the way to go. always remember to pay it forward
