This is why everyone should make sure that they are getting what they're paying for. If this person has not yet fruited his variety he doesn't know that is true to type regardless of his reliable source.

2 And if it hasn't been produced in your growing zone do not expect the same results from different growing zones.

3 A fig that has been pollinated will not taste the same and your results will be different.

Even the so-called experts admit to selling cuttings before they know what they have! Figs present some issues. I wish we had a reliable DNA testing, or some other method to verify what we have. We can only compare photos and descriptions. We can't even make direct taste comparisons as figs simply don't travel well. I have no way of knowing if the fig tree I plant here in Oregon will produce figs that taste the same in another locale, such as Louisiana. So in the end we need to have some trust in each other, but also be vigilant and realize mistakes will be made. And whenever someone sells or gives something away that is not correct, it needs to be called out publicly so the mess doesn't spread to those who are innocent.
Want list: #1-Qalaat al Madiq #2- black Zadar, #3 LSU Red, #4 Ben's Golden Riverside/Robert's Golden Rainbow  #5-Madiera Island black.

We love to give fig trees away here on Southern figs forum but that's not our main purpose for having this forum which I see is getting overlooked quite a bit.

There is a epidemic of great proportions on this variety. There has been sold thousands of counterfeit cuttings and plants.

So what will be the repercussions of this ?

Are the reliable and trusted sources going to make this right ?

This goes a lot deeper than what's being made out right now they're just naming a few of the sellers but what is the truth ? They are not telling you Paul Harvey and the rest of the story.

This looks to be so big that the reliable sources are scrambling to find this variety so when the Fallout happens they might be able to keep their reputation intact.

But the real facts are even if they managed to find the true variety are they going to grow it out and let it fruit to double-check it? Are they going to repeat the process and grow and take cuttings without it fruiting to make sure that it is the correct variety.

There has been many of new fig enthusiasts that have been taken advantage of and some of you that have purchase this won't know until it has fruited.

And now Colonel Litterman's black cross is being questioned about frauds being sold.

We see a lot of advertisement on figbid without pictures of the  figs or using somebody elses photos.

ASK THE SELLER IF THEY PRODUCE A FIG AND PIC'S OF IT !

ASK THE SELLER ABOUT THE VARIETY FLAVOR AND PRODUCTION GROWING IN HIS ZONE !

If you follow these two little simple rules you increase your chances of not being disappointed and wasting a few years of your time.

We have seen a few ads without photos of the figs and how productive the mother tree is. Are they buying cuttings and rooting them ? Truly if you have a very productive mother tree you have photos of the figs on the mother tree ?

If you ask anyone a direct question and they dodge it that should answer any question about that seller. And if their description doesn't match what they're telling you have all the facts that you need to know just use a little common sense.

We would like to see a few of the other people involved with the Martinence Rimada come forward and tell Paul Harvey and the rest of the story. This reminds me of my son breaking a window and putting the board over it to hide it eventually the facts have to come out. https://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/182590-buyer-beware-martinenca-rimada
