The best thing about this place is that we are here for each other when you need help.

Arturo,
As always thank you for your confidence in me as a newbie figger.

John,
Thank you for your expertise and New Jersey growing information for figs.

I will get the bags to cover the figs, that is on my list to do :)

"My father-in-law used to have a flip phone and wanted nothing to do with a smart phone.  He used to say phones are only meant to make calls."

Arturo, Your father-in-law sounds like me.   If I didn't accidentally jump into the bay with my flip phone seven years ago, I think I would still be using it.   Now, my iPhone 5s is ancient and my family makes fun of me because it is so old.

That is exactly why I don't want one.  When I am on the internet, it's from my computer only. I'm addicted to the internet already and do not wish to make it even worse by having a portable computer on my person.  My lifestyle doesn't justify the cost or need for one at this point.
I have being having a smart phone for many yrs.  I mainly use it to research what I want to plant or purchase before I purchase it.  I have a FB accnt but that is mainly so distant relatives can see pics of my kids as they grow.  I have to many things that I want to do to be on the phone.  I am not trying to convince you to get one but just showing you the convenience.

This is a way to get a good tree and learn how to use a smart phone.  They are not difficult, it takes a couple of times to do it. Once you get one you will see and you will ask yourself, why didnít I get one sooner.  My father-in-law used to have a flip phone and wanted nothing to do with a smart phone.  He used to say phones are only meant to make calls.  Now he is on it all the time, FB or texting someone. Being a gardener is just as difficult as using a smart phone.  You caring for all your potted trees is more difficult, you keep the trees alive and get them to fruit....just saying.  Wish you the best of luck.

Rumor has it that fig addicts may do almost anything for a free fig tree fix.  This includes "borrowing" the smart phone belonging to her husband, taking pictures without his knowledge, and then posting them.

You're giving me the idea of possibly getting you a free tree if the members want to confirm what you would do to satisfy your fig addiction AND then challenge your technological skills to qualify.   Oh, Sept. is lining up to be so much fun!!!

Denise, Your technical challenges may make this even more fun if I ask members to suggest ways we can make you jump through hoops for a free tree!!!

Congratulations Janet on the developing figs starting to show.

For later varieties, you might want to pinch the new growth at the beginning of June to ensure the fruits ripen.   Celeste should ripen in our area without pinching.

And if you have critters that find your near ripened fruits, consider bagging each fig with a small organza bag in green or yellow color.   It hinders the critters from finding ripe figs and also keeps ants out.
