I also have an orphan cutting I placed in-ground (direct plant method). So far it is alive and sprouting a few small leaves and buds but that’s about it...if it grows enough for me to take some cuttings from it I’ll be happy to share them in the Fall.
I’ve found the best success rate with direct planting though I dunno the actual percent offhand. However, I’m not really thrilled with the amount of growth coming from those cuttings which were direct-planted. It’s been hot and sunny with plenty of rain so I don’t see why these guys are growing at such a glacial pace. Of the surviving cuttings which I started indoors using DE or JSac’s method, many of them have already graduated from cups to 1/2 gal. pots and put on 6-8” growth.
