Andrea,

We only have celeste, two heirloom varieties that I believe to be celeste types, and brown turkey in-ground here. They all have leafed out, albeit some were delayed. We have a Celeste and a Brown Turkey that have both died completely to the ground. We noticed healthy growth emerging from both their roots earlier in the week.

Our potted trees that appear to have been completely lost are Martinenca Rimada, Yellow Long Neck and one called Bronze Turkey that I picked up from a local plant swap. These were all less than a year old and were accidentally left out by my teen helpers.
Wish List: Tashkent; Imp. Celeste; Nixon Peace; I-258, Texas Peach, LSU O'Rourke, Thibodeaux, Scott's Yellow; heirloom varieties- Ocracoke Is, unknowns; Other: World's Best Mulberry

John, for someone who is trying to whittle down their fig collection, you sure seem to be finding lots of new ones to try!

Andrea, I have a problem!!!

I just saw that John is air layering a bunch of trees too!

John, where do you grow all those trees on your property? I know you have a green house, but they don't all fit in there do they?

Denise, most of my trees are grown in my driveway.  Smaller trees are also grown on three 4 x8 elevated tables.

The greenhouse was only used to get my trees out of their winter storage in my garage and was taken down a little more than a week ago.  The driveway gets very hot in the summer and the figs seem to like it.  They easily get 12 hours of sun plus the blacktop absorbs heat like crazy.

I was curious because you do a lot of propagating and wondered where the plants all went.  I couldn't put my plants on my driveway because I would be afraid somebody would steal my trees.  I was raised in CA and there were lots of drive by shootings and home break ins.  Here everything is locked and anything you don't want stolen stays behind a privacy fence. It's very hard to change that mentality after living there for 30 years. lol

Denise, believe it or not, there are many places in NJ which are very safe.  I live in a community that was mostly farmland until developers came into play during the 1980’s.  Of course, we have an occasional incident of auto break ins every once in a while, but they are mostly associated with kids looking for small change.  We have more issues with deer than we do with wayward humans.  I think what keeps the riff raff on their toes is knowing that most of the residents of my community are also hunters, firmer farmers, and definite defenders of the Second Amendment.

As for the endpoints for plants I propagate, I give many away to friends (making more with each giveaway), neighbors, and to people I have randomly met on social media sites.   I also am on the bidding website where I have a chance to recover some of the funds I put out each year on acquiring new varieties, pots, or the larger amount of potting media I need each year.

Like I posted in a response to Andrea, “I have a problem”.   But I love keeping busy and this routine surely does it. 😀😀😀
